I Am From.

I Am From a mother who came from a tiny town in central New York, where neighbors weren't seen for their differences but rather as people who genuinely care about one another. I am from the smell of baked goods and a homemade meal around the dinner table served at 5:30 pm each night. I am from holidays filled with great intention and purpose, seen in the small details around a perfect place setting and a sparkling overhead chandelier with each crystal shining as bright as the love in the room. I am from the time and effort applied to every gathering, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and loved. 

I Am From a mother who made shopping on Saturdays more of an experience than a to-do list, where learning how to dress offered me great confidence and a love for fashion. I am from witnessing her style, in each step she took, outfitted with heels and a smart blazer. I am from forgetting my allowance each time we went, craving the Japanese tempura at the mall, but ultimately landing at Carmello's restaurant for a nice lunch and much-needed connection and closeness. I am from trying on a million shoes with no realistic thought of getting a pair, thinking the Shedhouse jean store was the coolest, and Addis Co. & Deys department store was the classiest. 

I Am From a mother who makes the BEST lasagna, loaded with every ingredient carefully crafted to perform with optimal flavors over a pan or pot on the stove. I am from a chocolate cake recipe handed down from her mother, with cream cheese frosting that my children now enjoy. I am from Christmas and Easter, where dressing up was something to look forward to. I am from shoes that must coordinate with your purse. 

I AM From a mother, with a great appreciation for art and literature, where Jane Eyre was a consistent recommended read. I am from a published children's book author at 80 years young, who has gifted numerous acrylic paintings all over the country, and whose artistic skills are unending.

I Am From a mother who prioritizes people over money and material things, and isn't afraid of anything. I am from many years of happiness, tears, grief, and joy. I am from a mother who gives more than she has, and where loyalty and love are absolutes.

I Am From a mother who brought me Italian, English, and Dutch heritage, where family, independence, kindness, and hard work inside and out of the home held equal value. I am from a mother who exemplifies generosity and leads with her heart.
